System Of A Down: “Those who are protesting peacefully, please continue,” says drummer John Dolmayan.

The musician's stance was criticized on social media.

System Of A Down drummer John Dolmayan , which began following the death of George Floyd on May 25th.

Dolmayan used his Instagram to express his position, writing in a post, “To those of you who protest peacefully, please continue, the only way to institute the moral change we all want is to do it peacefully and with the voices of the masses merging into a single voice that cannot be denied.” This excerpt from the text was the target of intense criticism in the musician's comments, which questioned his position in favor of only peaceful demonstrations.

The musician continues, “For the famous people who provide financial support to Antifa members incarcerated during these lootings, perhaps their efforts would be better served by helping the thousands of small businesses that these people are destroying. It’s easy to get caught up in the narrative, to be more substantive. There are people out there who genuinely think you know something they don’t, and while you’re hiding in your safe places, they’re out on the streets suffering. I pledge to help those small businesses destroyed by these terrible messes, I pledge to make my voice heard in the pursuit of justice for George Floyd and to help ensure this doesn’t happen again by any means necessary.”

“I also support the tens of thousands of well-meaning police officers and women across the country who go to work every day to help keep us safe,” John concludes.
